14/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 13 July, the spokesman for the European External Action Service called for a stay of execution for Bahraini citizens Mohamed Ramadan and Husain Ali Moosa, who were convicted on terrorism charges for their alleged involvement in the bombing in Al Dair on 14 February 2014 that killed a policeman. On 13 July, their death sentence was confirmed by Bahrain’s Court of Cassation, despite concerns regarding the fairness of the trial. The EU had already called for a stay of execution on 9 January (see EUROPE 12400/16). The spokesman reiterated the EU’s call on the authorities to establish a moratorium on executions as a first step towards abolishing the death penalty and to commute all pending death sentences. (CG)
