17/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 June, in order to take into account the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper I) initiated a written procedure leading to a final agreement to amend the regulation (2016/1628) on emission limits and type-approval of internal combustion engines to be installed in non-road mobile machinery. According to the regulation, manufacturers have until 30 June to comply. The European Commission has proposed that a further twelve months is allowed for them to comply with the new rules in order to take account of the seasonal nature of the goods in which the transition engines will be installed (in particular for inland waterway vessels). The deadline for the final adoption of the legislative proposal remains unknown for the moment. (PH)
