17/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, reiterated on Tuesday 16 June in a telephone conversation with the new Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, the EU’s intention to work closely with his government to address the multiple challenges facing Iraq. “The EU is ready to step up its support to the new Iraqi government as it undertakes urgently needed political and economic reforms”, Borrell is reported to have stressed in the phone call, according to a statement by the European External Action Service (EEAS). Both sides agreed to continue strengthening the longstanding EU-Iraq relationship, including through the full implementation of their Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, to step up cooperation on issues of mutual interest and to remain in close contact”, according to the EEAS.
