EU calls for continued communication between two Koreas

17/06/2020 (Agence Europe)The spokesman for the European External Action Service on Tuesday 16 June described Pyongyang’s demolition of the inter-Korean liaison office in Kaesong - combined with its increased military rhetoric - and the severing of official communication links with Seoul as “unacceptable”. “It is imperative to keep lines of communication open between DPRK and the Republic of Korea in order to avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations, as well as to build confidence between the two sides”, the spokesman said in his statement, adding that further provocative and damaging measures should be avoided. He warned that the EU would continue to encourage dialogue and the resumption of a sustained diplomatic process aimed at building trust and establishing lasting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula “free of nuclear weapons” “at the earliest possible time”.
