New rules on agricultural tariff quotas to apply from 19 June

On Friday 12 June, the European Commission published its regulations on the system for managing tariff quotas for agricultural products on the basis of licences.

These tariff quotas for certain agricultural products have been granted under international agreements. They shall apply to quota periods starting from 1 January 2021 and shall generally cover a period of 12 consecutive months.

In addition, specific sectoral rules apply for certain products (cereals, rice, sugar, olive oil, fruit and vegetables, beef, pig and poultry meat, eggs, milk and milk products, dog and cat food) or for certain quotas considered "sensitive".

Finally, these texts also lay down the conditions and eligibility criteria that an operator must meet in order to apply under the tariff quotas.

This system will come into effect 7 days after publication, on 19 June.
