12/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 12 June, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the creation of a European standard for green bonds. It was already mentioned in the framework for the 2018 Action plan on Sustainable Finance (see EUROPE 11977/2), the European Commission has more recently, within the framework of the European Green Deal, reaffirmed its commitment to put such a tool in place. In its report of June 2019, the Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance (TEG) recommended that the Commission create a “voluntary, non-legislative EU Green Bond Standard”. In March, the TEG published a user guide and an updated proposal (see EUROPE 12442/14). The European Commission will make a decision under the framework of the renewed strategy on sustainable finance (see EUROPE 12464/29), which is expected in the 4th quarter of 2020.
