03/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 2 June, following approval by a written procedure, the Council of the EU formally adopted the conclusions on “the future evolution of administrative cooperation in the field of taxation in the EU” (see EUROPE 12488/23). The Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) had already given the text the green light on 20 May (see EUROPE 12491/38). The conclusions set out Member States' expectations for the proposal for a Directive (‘DAC 7’) to amend the 2011 Directive on administrative cooperation that the Commission is expected to present in July (see EUROPE 12440/20) to facilitate the direct exchange of data held by digital platforms with tax authorities. The text from the Council of the EU quite justifiably emphasises the need for the taxation challenges arising from these new business models to be taken into account.
