03/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The GUE/NGL and Renew Europe groups announced on 2 and 3 June that they wanted to raise the issue of police violence at the European Parliament's plenary session scheduled for 17-19 June, following the death of George Floyd in the United States (see EUROPE 12497/15). The GUE/NGL proposes an item on “police violence after the murder of George Floyd, as demonstrators face increasing repression, arbitrary arrests, assaults and killings”. Renew Europe, for its part, calls for “a debate and a clear position” of the European Parliament to address the issues of police repression, racism or violence. The European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights, for its part, added a debate on the human rights situation in the United States to its agenda on 5 June. (CG)
