03/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – A new Commission communication on disinformation in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic is being prepared, an institutional source confirmed to EUROPE on Wednesday 3 June. The subject should be discussed at the next meeting of the College of Commissioners on 10 June. Vice-President for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova has held several meetings with representatives of online platforms on this subject since the beginning of the crisis (see EUROPE 12457/32, 12479/9). On Tuesday 2 June, the Commission also announced the launch of the European Digital Media Observatory’s activities. This structure, set up under the framework of its action plan against disinformation (see EUROPE 12153/8), will provide support to public authorities in monitoring the ‘anti-disinformation’ policies adopted by the online platforms.
