07/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) gave the green light on Thursday 7 May, by 44 votes in favour, 7 against and 9 abstentions (remote vote), to the final compromise text reached between the co-legislators on the proposed regulation to facilitate crowdfunding. A provisional agreement between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU had already been reached in December 2019 (see EUROPE 12394/15), but the text took time to be finalised. In the end, this only provides for minimal harmonisation of the rules, whereas the European Commission had proposed a genuine European passport (see EUROPE 11977/3). For its part, the EU Council had validated the Agreement (see EUROPE 12449/28) on 18 March. (MF)
