18/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) gave their green light on Wednesday 18 March to the final compromise text reached between the co-legislators on the proposed regulation to facilitate crowdfunding. A provisional agreement between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU had been reached as early as December 2019 (see EUROPE 12394/15), but the text took some time to be finalised, a European source told us. It provides for a minimum harmonisation of rules, whereas the European Commission had proposed a European passport (see EUROPE 11977/3). Since the text was adopted on second reading, the EU Council must first take note of the political agreement before sending the text back to the lawyer-linguists for revision, then formally adopt it, and finally send it back to Parliament for final adoption.
