18/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – Like a host of other events, the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26), scheduled for November in Glasgow, could be postponed due to the 'Covid-19' pandemic, according to British government officials as reported by the Financial Times newspaper on Wednesday 18 March. Contacted by EUROPE, a spokesperson for COP26 assured us that work was continuing on hosting the event in Glasgow in November. He added: "We are following developments closely and are in frequent contact with the United Nations, Chile [which currently holds the Presidency of the COP] and other partners". On the European Commission side, work on COP26 preparedness continues despite the pandemic, a spokeswoman told us. The decision to postpone the conference would rest with the British Government. (DG)
