07/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, wrote, on 30 April, to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asking her to invite his institution to the high-level meeting planned for June between the EU and London to take stock of the negotiations on the future relationship. In this letter revealed by Politico, the President of the European Parliament welcomed the current readiness of the EU negotiator, Michel Barnier, to inform the Parliament on the state of discussions with London. The letter stresses that, as it is also a key player in this future agreement (the Parliament is ratifying the international agreements and will adopt a resolution on the future partnership on 17 June), the European Parliament should also be invited to this high-level conference provided for in the Withdrawal Agreement. When contacted, the Commission indicated that it had not yet replied to Mr Sassoli. (SP)
