European hunters accuse Commission of undue influence on national experts over REACH Regulation

07/05/2020 (Agence Europe)The European Federation of Hunters (FACE) denounced on Thursday 7 May an attempt by the European Commission’s environment services to influence Member State experts to support the proposal to restrict the use of lead shot in EU wetlands under the REACH Regulation. “The European Union is founded on solid principles of democracy, transparency and the Rule of law. There is no room for procedural errors on files”, says FACE President Torbjörn Larsson in a statement. He attached a letter of 4 May addressed to Commissioners Virginijus Sinkevičius (Environment) and Thierry Breton (Internal Market) accusing “nature protection experts of exercising unjustified political influence”, with a view to obtaining a vote in favour of the proposal under discussion in the REACH Committee.
