12/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EEAS spokesperson expressed concern on 12 November about the consequences of the vote of no confidence (63 votes out of 101) in the Moldovan government on issues relating to the recruitment process of the Prosecutor General, saying that this vote sent “worrying signals” to the reform process in the country. Prime Minister Maia Sandu wanted to appoint the Attorney General, whereas he should have been selected by a special commission under the Ministry of Justice. Recalling that the governing coalition had launched a number of initiatives in the areas of anti-corruption, judicial independence and bank fraud investigations, the spokesperson recalled that the need for such reforms had not disappeared with the parliamentary vote. A new government must be formed within 90 days; otherwise elections will be called. (CG)
