12/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European External Action Service spokeswoman called on the Israeli government on Monday 11 November, to reverse its decision to revoke the work visa of Human Rights Watch’s director for Israel and Palestine, Omar Shakir, a decision confirmed by the Israeli Supreme Court on 5 November. Accused of supporting the boycott movement of the Jewish state, Mr Shakir, an American citizen, has 20 days to leave Israel. “Support for human rights defenders is an integral part of the European Union's policy on human rights”, the spokesperson said, adding that the EU defends the freedoms of expression and association. On the same day, Mr Shakir was received at the EU Representation in Israel. (CG)
