12/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, has expressed the EU’s willingness to send - “if the conditions are right” - an electoral observation mission to Bolivia to monitor the new presidential elections that will be held by the end of January 2020. Referring to a “critical” moment for the country, she called on all parties to exercise restraint and “responsibility” in order to lead the way towards “credible” elections. In power since 2006, resigning President Evo Morales fled to Mexico on Monday 11 November, in the face of widespread popular protest. According to the EU, relying on a report by the Organisation of American States, the second round of the last Bolivian presidential elections in which Mr Morales won was not credible (see EUROPE 12357/18).
