12/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 November, the European Commission approved public support for Antwerp and Ostend-Bruges airports. With respect to Antwerp airport, Belgium is providing €8.96 million for the modernisation of the airport’s security and safety infrastructure and €1.7 million in operating aid for the private airport operator. The aid should improve Antwerp’s connectivity and facilitate the development of the city and, more broadly, the Flemish Region. In addition, the Commission found that the airport’s growth is not expected to be at the expense of other airports in the same catchment area. With respect to Ostend-Bruges, the Commission found that the operating aid granted by Belgium to the private airport operator (€2.3 million) was in line with EU state aid rules. (LC)
