08/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, signed an agreement on Saturday 6 July, to establish a “full EU” delegation in Ashgabat during a visit there. The purpose of this delegation will be to cover relations between the Union and Turkmenistan, “a country with which we enjoy fruitful and open cooperation and partnership”, according to the High Representative. The ambassador - who has not yet been appointed - is expected to take up this post in September and the delegation is expected to consist of about ten people. The EU currently has a liaison office in Ashgabat. This will be the 142nd EU delegation in the world. Concerning the Central Asian region, the EU already has delegations in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. (CG)
