27/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – Just a few months after the entry into force of the European Regulation on geo-blocking (2018/302/EC) (see EUROPE 12123/29), 50% of EU citizens are aware of the measures taken by the EU to combat unjustified discrimination in online sales, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Thursday 27 June. Nevertheless, according to this study, only 29% of respondents know which specific digital rights in EU law concern them, demonstrating that efforts are needed to ensure a wider knowledge of these rights. The geo-blocking Regulation prohibits economic operators from discriminating against customers on the basis of their nationality, place of residence or place of establishment, if they are already operating in their Member State.
