The European Commission announced on Thursday 27 June the adoption of a new 100 million euros aid package to help refugees and local communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
Of this amount, from the regional trust fund in response to the Syrian crisis, 55 million euros will be used to support the resilience of refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
28.4 million euros will be used to provide access to higher education for refugees and vulnerable host youth in the three countries, 12.5 million euros to provide protection services to children and women victims of gender-based violence in Lebanon and 3.6 million euros to continue and strengthen the Trust Fund's horizontal monitoring and evaluation framework.
With these new funds, 1.6 billion euros out of a total of 1.8 billion euros mobilised by the EU Trust Fund has been transformed into funding for concrete actions in favour of refugees and host countries, according to the European Commission. The EU budget, 22 Member States and Turkey contribute financially to this Fund. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
