On Wednesday 29 May, the Member States' ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper) appointed 14 judges to the EU General Court.
These appointments are part of the partial renewal of the Tribunal's membership, with the term of office of 23 judges expiring at the end of August, and the third stage of the Court’s reform, which provides for the appointment of nine additional judges.
The following were reappointed for a further term of office from early September 2019 to late August 2025: Eugène Buttigieg of Malta and her compatriot Ramona Frendo, Anthony Collins and Colm Mac Eochaidh of Ireland, Jan Passer of the Czech Republic and Vesna Tomljenović of Croatia.
The seven new judges appointed for the same period are: Johannes Laitenberger and Gabriele Steinfatt from Germany, José Martín y Pérez de Nanclares and Miguel Sampol Pucurull from Spain, Rimvydas Norkus from Lithuania (replacing Mr Bieliūnas), Tamara Perišin from Croatia and Petra Škvařilová-Pelzl from the Czech Republic.
Estonian Iko Nõmm was appointed until the end of August, because he is one of the judges who have been or will be reappointed for 3 years as part of the reform. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
