03/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – In a statement released on Friday 3 May, the GUE/NGL Group in the European Parliament announced that, on Monday 6 May, a group of refugees who left Frankfurt by bicycle earlier this week will arrive at the Schuman roundabout in Brussels to raise awareness of the situation facing asylum seekers who are currently trapped in Libya. This initiative, entitled #Ride4Justice, has been organised by Eritrean refugee activists. They are speaking out against the fact that, currently, more than 10,000 asylum seekers are “trapped” in Libya’s war zone, detained in inhumane conditions and often recruited as soldiers. “This is the direct result of European action”, say these activists, who are calling for a humanitarian corridor to be established to allow the immediate and non-discriminatory evacuation of people detained in Libya, and for an international investigation for crimes against humanity to be set up to look into crimes committed against migrants in Libya.
