Notaries of Europe unveil their manifesto for European elections

The Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) unveiled its manifesto on Thursday 2 May, for future MEPs and members of the European Commission's College.

It presents a series of recommendations in five main areas: - fostering the development of non-contentious justice in Europe; - facilitating the settlement of successions in Europe; - supporting families in Europe; - protecting the vulnerable; and - acting in the fight against money laundering.

Notaries in Europe call for, in particular, the use of preventive justice procedures in the adoption of future European legislation. They also propose that the EU adopt a legal instrument on cooperation between the courts, authorities and legal professionals of the Member States in the field of information on foreign law in civil or commercial matters.

They also suggest defining and regulating digital assets through appropriate European legislation and considering unifying the conflict of laws rules at European level in new areas such as filiation and adoption.

Through this manifesto, we are committed to working alongside the European institutions to provide legislative and practical solutions to the challenges faced by citizens whose lives are now part of the European area”, explained CNUE President Pierre-Luc Vogel in a statement.
