A new development in Theresa May's government, a development that is neither linked to Brexit nor voluntary. The British Prime Minister announced on 1 May that she had dismissed her Defence Minister, Gavin Williamson, on charges of leaking confidential information.
These allegations, which the main interested party refutes, concern the decision of the National Security Council (NSC) to allow Huawei to participate in the construction of its future 5G mobile telephone network by providing peripheral equipment.
The United States, which has repeatedly urged Europeans to exclude Huawei from their market, stressed on 29 April that the NSC's decision had still not been officially confirmed. However, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cyber and International Communications and Information Policy, Robert Strayer, said that if a country were to authorise Huawei, "we would have to reassess our ability to share information and be interconnected with [it] as we are today. The exact way this will be done will depend on the risk posed by the networked equipment". (Original version in French by Sophie Petitjean)
