Facebook convicted in France for unfair terms

10/04/2019 (Agence Europe)The French justice system ordered Facebook to pay 30,000 euros to the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir, which considered the terms of the American giant's general conditions of use to be "abusive", according to a report published Wednesday 10 April by AFP.  In a judgment handed down the previous day, the Paris Regional Court (TGI) ordered Facebook Ireland to pay the UFC-Que Choisir consumer association the sum of 30,000 euros "in compensation for moral damage caused to the collective interest of consumers". At issue were 430 terms deemed unfair and unlawful. UFC-Que Choisir proclaimed, on its website, this to be a "major victory". In 2014, the Paris Regional Court had already ordered Twitter and Google to pay 30,000 euros to UFC-Que Choisir in August 2018 and February 2019 respectively. (SPj)
