Huawei, United States supports EU's position... provided it evolves

10/04/2019 (Agence Europe)The United States continues its campaign against the use of Chinese equipment in the development of 5G. At a press conference on Wednesday, 10 April, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Information Policy, International Communications and Information Technology encouraged his partners to adopt a risk-based approach, which should lead to a de facto ban on Huawei Technologies Co Ltd or ZTE.  He welcomed the European Commission's recommendation, which advocates such an assessment, and even supported the new German standards as, in his opinion, they are supposed to evolve over time. And in conclusion: "We know that it would be very difficult for us to share information the way that we have in the past if there are unsecured networks that we’re having to rely upon, and unsecure equipment in those networks", he said, pointing out that no policy decisions were being made at this stage.  (SPj)
