Green light for European Parliament over interinstitutional agreement on aerodynamic cabins in lorries

On Tuesday 26 March, MEPs meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament largely approved (635 votes in favour, 22 against, 5 abstentions) the interinstitutional agreement reached between representatives of the European Parliament and the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 12 February regarding the deadline for the implementation of special rules on the maximum length of lorry cabins, with a view to accelerating the deployment of lorries equipped with aerodynamic cabins (see EUROPE 12192/26)

It should be recalled that it was decided by co-legislators that aerodynamic cabins would be placed on the market from 1 September 2020. This text echoes the European Commission's proposal of last May as part of the third ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12022/7)

Both the Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Committee of Permanent Representatives – 'Coreper') and the MEPs of the European Parliament's ‘transport’ committee had already given the green light to the text (see EUROPE 12195/31, 12206/28). The EU Council must now formally endorse it before it can enter into force. (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
