Manfred Weber describes his exchanges with Viktor Orbán as “constructive

12/03/2019 (Agence Europe)The leader of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Germany's Manfred Weber, described his exchanges with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Tuesday 12 March as "constructive", as he discussed in Budapest the place of the Hungarian Fidesz party in the European Christian Democratic family. He described the fact that the Hungarian government will no longer pursue its ‘anti-EU’ and ‘anti-Juncker’ campaign as "first success". But there is still some way to go, according to Mr Weber, "by 20 March", when the EPP assembly will debate the request for exclusion/suspension made by 13 member parties (see EUROPE 12207/14). Mr Weber will inform the EPP Group in the European Parliament on 13 March. According to his entourage, he is determined to obtain Mr Orbán's clear commitment to stop his attacks on his own political family. Otherwise, he would be willing to exclude him. (SP)
