12/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament supports the extension of the European Solidarity Corps for the period 2021-2027. On Tuesday 12 March, it adopted its position for negotiations with the EU Council on this programme, which allows young people aged 18 to 30 to participate in a range of solidarity activities through voluntary actions, internships or fixed-term employment within the EU. Parliament's report, prepared by Michaela Šojdrová (EPP, Czech Republic), calls for a strong programme, with a budget that focuses on voluntary activities. It focuses on accessibility for young people in need of special support (from the outermost regions, immigrants, people with disabilities or health problems, etc.). As proposed by the Commission, it includes humanitarian activities outside the EU. (SPj)
