The European Parliament decided on Tuesday 12 March to agree to vote urgently on the two texts aimed at mitigating the negative impact of a no-deal withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union on the fisheries sector (see EUROPE 12200/17).
The Parliament vote on these two proposals will take place on Wednesday 13 March, around noon.
The first proposal concerns an amendment to the Regulation on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). The proposal introduces the possibility of granting public aid for the temporary cessation of fishing activities to fishermen and operators who are heavily dependent on access to UK waters and who are affected by a closure of UK waters.
The second proposal amends the Regulation on the sustainable management of external fishing fleets. Objective: To ensure that the Union is able to grant access to EU waters for United Kingdom vessels until the end of 2019, provided that vessels of the Twenty-Seven also enjoy reciprocal access to British waters.
