25/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday evening, 24 January, the EU welcomed the opening, on the same day in Khartoum, of negotiations between the Central African Government and armed groups as “a positive step towards the conclusion of a peace agreement”. These negotiations are taking place within the framework of the African Initiative for Peace and Reconciliation in CAR, under the auspices of the AU, the Central African President Faustin-Archangel Touadéra, with the support of the United Nations and the countries and organizations in the region. “All the actors involved must work to ensure that the peace agreement meets the legitimate aspirations of the Central African population, in particular in terms of security, justice, reconciliation and inclusiveness and in accordance with the Central African Constitution”, said the spokesperson for the European External Action Service, adding that the EU "fully supports the African Initiative and President Touadéra”.
