25/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Estonia on 24 January because it imposes additional obligations on travellers crossing the EU's external border, contrary to the 2016 Schengen Borders Code, a statement said. Estonia asks travellers wishing to leave the EU to reserve a place in a queue to cross the border and to pay for the reservation and use of the waiting area. The Schengen Borders Code provides for a comprehensive set of conditions governing border crossings and border checks, which must be fulfilled when travellers leave the Union. But this code does not allow Member States to impose additional obligations, such as those applicable at border crossing points in Estonia, the Commission explains. (SP)
