05/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 5 September, the European Commission announced that two products would be added to the list of protected geographical indications (PGI). For Spain, there is the 'Morcilla de Burgos', a meat-based product made with onions, lard or suet, rice, blood, spices and salt. The PGI produced in the Rucava Novads of Latvia is the 'Rucavas baltais sviests', a half-fat butter with a slightly acidic taste. Traditionally, it is eaten immediately after being churned with steamed potatoes or spread on rye bread. These new appellations will be added to over 1430 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
