Court upholds freezing of assets of Yanukovych and his son for March 2015 - March 2016

On Thursday 19 October, the Court of Justice of the EU upheld the decision to freeze the assets of the former Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovych, and his son Oleksandr for the period between 6 March 2015 and 6 March 2016 (joint cases C-598/16 P and C-599/16 P). The EU sanctioned them in 2014, having identified them as responsible for the embezzlement of funds belonging to the Ukrainian state (see EUROPE 11033).
