30/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, on Wednesday 30 September, of a communication on key enabling technologies (nanotechnology, microtechnology and nanotechnology, advanced materials, biotechnology and photonics), the Commission hopes to work towards their industrial deployment on a broader scale. These technologies, which are useful in the development of new medical treatment or of low-or no-emission cars, for converting sunlight into energy or improving the food situation, continue to face many obstacles. The Commission is proposing to set up a high-level expert group to develop a common strategy for the longer term and concrete actions properly coordinated at European level. On the basis of this work, the Commission will report back to the Council by the end of 2010. (A.B./trans.fl)
