MEPs extend to 70 years protection enjoyed by recording artists - Council divided over the issue

Brussels, 24/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 23 April, World Book and Copyright Day, the European Parliament adopted the report by Brian Crowley (UEN, Ireland) on the proposed directive which extends the protection enjoyed by performing artists (EUROPE 9706). The text adopted is the result of a compromise between the EPP-ED, PES and UEN groups, which has been rejected by the European left and the Liberals.
