24/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 23 April, the European Parliament adopted, by a very large majority, the report by Jean-Paul Gauzès (EPP-ED, France), which introduces a registration and supervision system for the financial ratings agencies (EUROPE 9887). On the same day, the ambassadors of the member states to the EU gave their agreement to the compromise. The definitive adoption of the text at first reading will take place at a forthcoming Council (most likely the meeting of the European finance ministers on 5 May). The regulation will enter into force nine months after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
