Positive reaction to final adoption of new roaming directive

Brussels, 24/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - BEUC (the European consumers' organisation) welcomes the rapid adoption of the new regulation on roaming, which will give consumers the possibility to take advantage of international roaming services at reasonable prices (EUROPE 9887). On the sujbect of downloading data, BEUC considers, however, that the goal has not been completely attained. “Even if a wholesale price has been limited to €1 and a cut-off limit has been put in place (…), there will be no retail prices ensuring consumers will really benefit from significant price reduction”, BEUC stresses.

On the other hand, 3 Group, the specialist in “3G” services, is pleased with the provisions for regulating data downloading, saying: “this will allow us to offer more attractive packages to our roaming customers wanting to use their mobiles to access the web, emails and their friends on Facebook and other social networking sites”.
