Commission undertakes to combat alien species detrimental to diversity

Brussels, 05/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - Biodiversity in Europe is threatened by the intrusion of alien species such as the muskrat or giant hogweed, but little is known of the extent of the problem. These invasive alien species (IAS) can disrupt local flora and fauna and cause considerable damage to nature and the economy.
