21/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 20 March, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation into SFR France's planned acquisition of Télé2, France's fixed telephone and internet access business. The Commission feels that the initial undertakings by SFR and Vivendi to remove competitive concerns identified by the Commission are unsatisfactory and insufficient, and will examine in detail the potential anti-competitive effects of this deal on pay-TV markets in France. It now has 90 working days (until 2 August 2007) to decide whether the takeover would significantly impede effective competition or damage consumer interests. (gc)
