18/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 19-20 October Joe Borg the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs will be in Scotland to meet political leasers and representatives from the fisheries sector. In Aberdeen he will be discussing the Green Paper on EU maritime policy. Accompanied by Ross Finnie, the Scottish environment and rural development minister, Borg will also go to the Shetland Islands and Hebrides. The Commissioner will be tackling different current affairs themes, including the preparation of European Commission proposals on fishing possibilities for 2007 (expected for end of November or beginning of December) and challenges to aquaculture. He will also use the occasion to get acquainted with the specificity of fishing communities in Scotland. (lc)
