22/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The National Armaments Directors of EU Member States met on 20 September within the Steering Board of the European Defence Agency (EDA). They agreed on the outline of the kind of Defence Technological and Industrial Base (BITE) that is able to provide key military capability, develop defence technologies and be competitive. As announced (EUROPE 9268), the 22 EU Member States that take part in the Code of Conduct for liberalisation of the EU defence procurement market (Ed.: Denmark has an opt-out for defence and Spain and Hungary abstained) approved two measures to support the development of a European defence procurement market: one on supply security and the other on information exchange. The next meeting of the Steering Board will be held on the fringe of the informal meeting of EU defence minsters on 2 and 3 October in Kittila, Finland.
