College to make announcement on de minimis aid on Wednesday

Brussels, 18/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 20 September, the Commission will adopt the final version of its proposal for the review of de minimis aid, which will be put to Member States for consultation. In the first version published in March, the Commission proposed an increase from €100,000 to €150,000 in the ceiling below which Member States would be required to notify aid granted. The threshold, ultimately, will be €200,000 per company over a three-year period, as recommended by the European Council and which satisfies the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME), in particular (see EUROPE 9201). A ceiling of €1.7 million is likely to apply for non-transparent aid, such as credit guarantees, which cannot be calculated exactly in ex ante fashion. The draft regulation should be adopted before the end of the year and come into force in January 2007.
