Brussels, 18/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The president of the SME Union, Christoph Leitl, gave his support for President Barroso's intention (EUROPE 9263) to boost competition on the energy markets. He said in a press release that Barroso was absolutely right to say that the European energy giants must face more competition or be dismantled. Only a more competitive energy market with more powerful regulators and a better legal framework can guarantee sufficient access and better prices for European producers, especially for SMEs and crossborder end-consumers, he stressed, before going on to call for supply and transmission activities of European giants to be kept separate in order to ensure real competition and to stop blocking rivals at market entry.
