Brussels, 18/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - No fewer than seven European Commissioners will meet this Tuesday in Profondval (Wallonia) under the leadership of Internal Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini. The Commissioners will try to bring responses to the many problems posed by the massive influx of illegal immigrants in the south of the EU. The “Group of Commissioners on Migration”, in addition to Mr Frattini, includes the Commissioners for Development Louis Michel, Economic Affairs Joaquin Almunia, Employment Vladimlir Spidla, Regional Policy Danuta Hübner, Education Jan Figel, Health Markos Kyprianou and External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner (who will not be able to attend since she will be in New York: see related article). The main task of this high-level group is to draw up a joint strategy on immigration matters, said Mr Frattini (see related article on the College Seminar on the “Citizens' Agenda for Europe”).
