18/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Forum of Insurance against Accidents at Work and Occupational Diseases and Eurogip have just published a detailed report on the number of mesothelioma, cancers and asbestos plaques recognised in western European countries as being caused by the presence of and/or working with asbestos. This report also provides a comparative analysis of the different systems taking care of the sick and compensation for workers. It implicitly appeals for European harmonisation of pay outs and a definitive ban on asbestos worldwide. Some estimates claim that more than 100,000 deaths from mesothelioma in Europe are caused by asbestos (http://www.europeanforum.org ).
