29/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - In an interview in the Financial Times on 29 June, the governor of the central Bank of Canada, David Lodge, affirmed that the next GT8 summit (in Gleneagles, Scotland, next week) had to focus on “the threat to global prosperity from economic imbalances rather than Africa and climate change…and how in the medium term we are going to address global imbalances and how we will work out systematically with important players in other parts of the world to deal with this issue”. By drawing attention to emerging economies like China, India and Brazil, Dodge believes that the G8 is not the best forum for tackling the biggest global economic problems and should therefore expand it to these countries and South Africa. The Group of Seven most industrialised countries: USA, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, United Kingdom and Italy became the G8 when Russia joined.
