29/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - Bavarian CDU MEP Ingo Friedrich affirmed in a press release that the future president of the European Council Tony Blair had to exploit the “chances” on offer in the current crisis in Europe. The “pro-European” ideas expressed by the British prime minister to the European Parliament had to be backed up by deeds, explained Friedrich, who again appealed for the alternative “privileged partnership” with Turkey rather than its joining the EU (see other article). Friedrich hammered home the fact that they needed more than a simple “European market” and that Europe did not have to be a victim of globalisation but had to rather ensure that “the development of globalisation respected human dignity”. The MEP insisted that the EU “contribute to moulding a globalisation inspired by European values and protecting citizens against unfettered globalisation”.
