Brussels, 01/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - MEP Angelika Beer published ideas last week for a Green security strategy in a document entitled: 'Fur eine Europaische Sicherheitspolitik aus einem Guss'. The German Green told reporters that the policy aimed to ensure the EU's security strategy was genuinely used for peace and to give parliaments more involvement in controlling it. It also aims to remove 'competition' arising from power overlaps between Council and Commission. Instead, she suggests that Councils for Enlarged Security be established in the Member States to prepare decisions to be taken at European level by a coordination body at European level; to overcome competition between institutions by setting up a Common Body for Enlarged Security from elements from the Council, Commission and European Parliament; and establishing a joint committee to ensure parliamentary control of Europe's security policy at both national and European level.
